Invitation to a Beheading [Priglashenie na kazn'], Ultima Thule, and Bend Sinister have most clearly defined Vladimir Nabokov's desire to "make it into his eternity." They share a common search line "from Plato," while the similarities of plots, motivations, characters, and names are already a consequence. The choice of Plato is understandable: He is an intersection of Oriental and Western, ancient and contemporary metaphysical teachings.
