1. 1. Fat body glycogen is utilized before fat body lipid as an energy source during starvation. 2. 2. Haemolymph carbohydrate is maintained at a constant level during the initial phase of starvation. 3. 3. Muscles may be broken down and the products used as an energy source during starvation. 4. 4. Ecdysis can be accelerated by starvation, suggesting that the reserves which accumulate in the larval fat body and haemolymph are sufficient for the synthesis of the adult cuticle.
