Abstract

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been conducted in 200 patients at the hospital since October 1991. During the operation patients whose preoperatie drip intravenous infusion cholangiography (DIC) pro-vided a favorable visualization underwent intraoperative DIC; while those with a poor visualization underwent direct cholangiography via incision of the cystic duct. In six patients undergoing endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) for choledocholithiasis preoperatively, intraoperative cholangiography was perfor-med by inserting an endoscopic naso-biliary drainage (ENBD) preoperatively. Advantages of the ENBD method are: 1) that intraoperative cholangiography can be done easily and frequently; 2) clear image with stable conditions can be obtained; 3) it can be prophylactic for biliary injuries, because the anatomy is disclosed before exposure of the cystic duct at the operation; and 4) ENBD tube can be applied for treatment of biliary injury during surgery, if it occurs.
