Abstract

Water‐borne urethanes for the printing ink industry have increased rapidly because they are the best alternative, and not necessarily because of EPA pressure. New developments in urethane chemistry enable the formulation of urethane water‐borne inks that have the adhesion, abrasion resistance, toughness and other necessary properties. The next generation of polymers is already on the drawing board. Close cooperation between the polymer manufacturer and ink formulator can only expand the horizons for this versatile form of polymer.
