Abstract

Status epilepticus (SE) is a serious epileptic conditionassociated with significant morbidity and mortality that re-quires prompt medical management. Outcome is largelycontingent on the age of the patient, the etiology and du-ration of the condition before treatment with antiepilepticdrugs (AEDs) (Towne et al., 1994). Treatment is evolvingas new medications become available. This summary willgive a brief overview on the use of valproic acid (VPA),levetiracetam (LEV), and topiramate (TPM) in generalizedconvulsive status epilepticus (GCSE).
