Abstract
City squares, which are known and found easily by many people and are situated at the center of city or area they are in, have lots of features in terms of aesthetic and functional. Also they provide several contributions for users in parallel with their requirements. Cumhuriyet Square is situated in the city center of Antalya and is used widely by domestic and foreign users almost every hour of a day. There are various public institutions and organizations, shopping and business centers, private educational institutions, restaurants etc. placed near by the square. In this research, the question “why users use the city squares” is investigated on Antalya Cumhuriyet Square case. As a result, it is determined that depending on life styles, a place as Cumhuriyet Square which has features like being assembly and focal point, is firstly used for transition.
