The use of triphenyltetrazolium chloride for the quantitative analysis of sugars and sugar derivatives reported in glycoproteins

Abstract

Three different types of sugars, reported to be present in the carbohydrate moiety of glycoproteins, were estimated on paper chromatograms using 2,3,5-tri-phenyltetrazolium chloride. The use of steam for the visualization of the sugars on the chromatograms diminished the reaction time from the usual 15 min to 2 min with equal sensitivity and better reproducibility.
