Abstract

c e s a t r d s HE USE OF NEURAXIAL TECHNIQUES in multiple sclerosis has been controversial, although it is now comonly believed to be relatively safe. Anesthesiologists have een cautious in their use because of concern that there could e an exacerbation of the disease, which could occur even as a oincidence. Patients with multiple sclerosis may have exacerations of their symptoms over time, which may occur in an npredictable fashion. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first eported case of the use of thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) in patient with multiple sclerosis. Additionally, the patient sufered from severe kyphoscoliosis of the thoracic spine. Kyphocoliosis of the spine is not a contraindication for the placement f an epidural catheter; however it makes its placement potenially more difficult.
