Abstract
This article considers the relationship between power and the act of writing in the Crown of Aragon during the reign of Peter IV of Aragon (1336–1387). I focus my attention on the MS 1 of the Library of the Universitat de Barcelona, which relates the lifetime of James I of Aragon (1213–1276), looking for its historical meaning and taking as reference the context in which it was made (1343). Thus, my aim in this article is to find an answer (or possible answers) to the following question: “What is the meaning of the narrative of this manuscript when studied from the perspective of the context of composition in 1343?” In this sense I analyze the content of the MS 1 of the Library of the Universitat de Barcelona and relate it to the context of the beginning of the reign of Peter IV of Aragon (1343), the same year of the confiscation of the Crown of Majorca by Peter IV of Aragon.
