Abstract

Recent studies have questioned the ability of psychological tests to meaningfully describe groups of criminal sexual offenders. The present study utilized the MMPIs of fifty-five men convicted of rape to predict clinicians' ratings of treatment participation within a sex offender program. The subjects were part of an earlier study which reported the derivation of homogeneous MMPI profile subgroups of adult sex offenders. Results indicated a significant relationship between MMPI profile subgroup membership and treatment participation. Further, several MMPI scales were found to predict sex offenders' attendance to treatment groups and clinicians' ratings of subject participation. Results are discussed with respect to the MMPI and the sex offender literature. Suggestions for future research are offered.
