Abstract

reported doing PFX but less than 2% did them specifically for bladder leakage problems. Conclusion(s): UI is common in adolescent girls, with rates comparable to those reported in adult women. Although UI bothered more than half those affected, few had sought treatment for the problem. Important reasons for not seeking help include embarrassment and not knowing who to see. One third of the sample had heard of PFM exercises but only half of those knew they could help with UI and less than 2% of the sample had tried PFX for UI. Implications: Clinicians treating adolescent girls should be aware that UI is prevalent in this group and consider this when assessing and treating them. There is a need for education and intervention programs to tell girls about PFX and that effective treatments are available.
