Abstract

Body mass index (BMI) is used to classify maternal obesity severity. While obesity staging systems, such as the Edmonton Obesity Staging System (EOSS), have been used in nonpregnant populations, they have not been applied to pregnant populations for risk stratification or prediction. The aims of this study are to estimate the association between modified EOSS stages and rates of adverse pregnancy outcomes and to compare the predictive ability of EOSS for these outcomes compared to the World Health Organization (WHO) BMI-based obesity classification.
