Abstract
Experience with a rapid method of inserting a prosthesis in the thoracic aorta of dogs, using four sutures at each anastomotic site and wrapping the anastomosis with a Teflon felt sleeve, is presented. Of a total of 23 dogs subjected to the operation, the procedure was death attributed to malfunction or complication of the prosthesis itself. The average length of time of cross-clamping the aorta during insertion of the prostheses was 12 minutes. The felt sleeve did not seem to impede the healing process between prosthesis and aorta.
