Abstract
Abstract The paper describes an on-site method of assessing the suitability of soil for use in earthworks. The method consists of a miniature compaction trial on material excavated and recompacted into a trial pit using a narrow trench roller. The application and utility of the method is discussed and a comparison is made with laboratory based suitability assessments.
