Abstract

In the titration of arsenious oxide with ceric sulphate, ruthenium tetroxide can be used as a catalyst only if a potentiometric end-point is employed. On the other hand, in the oxidimetric determination of sulphite with ferricyanide, a potentiometric end-point is obligatory and the reaction is catalysed equally well by ruthenium or osmium tetroxide. The former is to be preferred on the grounds of its relative non-toxicity and lower cost.
