Abstract

An investigation has been carried out into the use of polarized light for the measurement of small angular displacements of the order of one minute of arc. The basic technique is explained in detail and a description is given of a test rig which was built to determine the sensitivity of the method. The suitability of the system for dynamic measurements is discussed and various recommendations are made regarding possible future developments.
