Abstract

Summary With the increase in high speed automobile accidents and with increased mechanization in industry and agriculture, an ever-increasing number of patients are seen with multiple fractures and fractures associated with injuries to other systems. In the patient with multiple injuries, the methods of treatment used for isolated fractures frequently are not applicable or do not give satisfactory results. This article describes an approach to the problem of the patient with multiple injuries and the indications for open reduction and plate fixation in this group of patients.
