Abstract

Abstract The use of a piezoelectric crystal (PC) electrode as the substrate for an iron film permits the real-time, in situ evaluation of both current and mass vs potential behavior. This combination of data is shown to be far more informative than conventional corrosion scan results. Linear potentiodynamic scans in 1.0 N Na2SO4 for iron films electrodeposited at current densities (CDs) from 20 to 400 mA/cm2 are described. The observed corrosion behavior is interpreted on the basis of hydrogen co-reduction influences.
