Abstract
1. A new method has been developed for the determination of the percent ionic character of bonds; the method involves a comparison between the overlap integral for the real bond and that for a hypothetical covalent bond. 2. An equation has been derived relating the percent ionic character to the difference between the electronegativities of the corresponding atoms i=1−e−0.2 ΔX2.
