Abstract
The dream of the world as a global village is gradually fulfilling with technology playing a magnificent role. Technologies such as Semantic Web and ontologies have contributed immensely to the realization of this dream — the world as a global village. However, the dream is yet to be fully realized as complexities keep unfolding even in such areas and instances where successes have been recorded. Technology issues such as big data are becoming the concern for knowledge management. These issues have been the trend of technological developments. This paper is aimed at showcasing the use of ontologies as the efficient and intelligent knowledge management tool. A case study of an optimized general timetable ontology based on interval-based temporal relations and rules is analyzed. Ontologies allow for easy and intelligent reasoning with knowledge and is therefore the answer to technology issues, knowledge management as a whole and the big dream of artificial intelligence.
