Abstract

The goal of the paper is to evaluate the suitability of the 2.45 GHz microwave radiation in reducing the potato tubers storage losses. The experiment was conducted for three consecutive storage seasons on six edible potato varieties. It was determined that reaction of potato tubers to microwave radiation defined by processes taking place during the storage has a varietal character. Some microwave-irradiated combinations showed tendencies for increased germination. One potato variety responded to microwave radiation with significantly lower degree of infection by black scurf.
