Abstract

X-ray micro-computerized tomography (micro-CT) is a nondestructive material damage characterization and evaluation technique capable of 3D visualization of internal damages. The relationship between the macro- and microstructures of materials is a crucial factor affecting the performance of the materials in terms of their strength and service conditions. Hence, the accurate detailed microscale characterization and visualization of internal damages may give valuable information for manufacturing and developing special materials for space and aviation industries. In this chapter, the advantages of using micro-CT (3D visualization) in the analysis of materials will be discussed instead of traditional 2D imaging techniques. Furthermore, micro-CT has an advantage of performing in situ investigations during testing or manufacturing processes.
