Abstract

118 patients receiving metoclopramide for a variety of symptoms were studied. The drug was effective in relieving nausea and vomiting caused by centrally acting emetics such as morphine and digitalis. It was also effective when these symptoms were due to locally acting factors in the upper gastro-intestinal tract, such as peptic ulcer. Rapid relief of post-influenzal depression, and associated nausea and vomiting was also obtained. Three patients with hiccup were rapidly relieved. Very little relief of anorexia was obtained in patients suffering from carcinoma of the gastro-intestinal tract or other organs.
