Abstract

Numerical calculations are presented showing that melt flow oscillations caused by residual accelerations (“ g-jitter”) in crystal growth experiments under microgravity, can effectively be reduced by static magnetic fields. The reduction of the amplitudes of the flow oscillations is depending on the excitation frequency. Strength and orientation of the magnetic field are found to be important parameters. The results obtained without magnetic field agree well with published data.
