Abstract

This article is based on a study (1988-90) which examined the use of low vision aids (LVAs) by a group of children under seven years. The conclusions show that the use of appropriate LVAs have considerable advantages. They also indicate that the required adult support from parents and teachers would be improved through greater awareness of what LVAs can achieve. Team work between medical staff, optometrists, parents and specialist teachers might lead to better practice in the use of the LVAs, both at home and at school.
