Abstract
This paper presents two examples of the use of laser cleaning in the conservation of public copper-alloy monuments in the north-west of England during the past five years. Nd:YAG laser cleaning systems (emitting light at a wavelength of 1064 nm in pulses of 10 ns duration) have been used, in combination with chemical and mechanical cleaning methods, to remove unwanted paint layers and active corrosion products from the monuments to Lord Nelson and King Edward VII in Liverpool.
