Abstract

The intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) is the most widely used circulatory assist device in critically ill cardiac patients. This has been useful in patients with incessant and hemodynamically unstable ventricular tachyarrhythmias. CASE: This is a case report in which intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) was used in a patient with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy, who presented with incessant ventricular tachycardia, which immediately terminated upon IABP insertion. This patient eventually received an automated implantable cardiac defibrillator.
