Abstract

Consensus recommendations and guidelines concerning the off-label cosmetic use of hyaluronidase remain inconsistent with respect to dose, dilution, appropriate time of administration, and incidence of allergic reactions. The literature has confirmed that hyaluronidase plays a critically important role in reversing a number of complications arising from the injection of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Clinical medical aesthetic scenarios where hyaluronidase can be used as a single and adjunctive therapy are explored. As much of the evidence surrounding the use of hyaluronidase is empirical, aesthetic nurses are advised to interpret the literature cautiously in the absence of robust clinical data.
