Abstract

In alkaline solution, uranium VI readily forms with glyoxal bis-(2- hydroxyanil) a violet complex containing two molecules of reagent to one of uranium, this reaction was made the basis of a method for determining uranium. The complex, soluble in aqueous methanolic solution, has maximum absorption at 575 m mu and is stable in presence of ethylenediaminetetraacetate, which suppresses formation of other metallic complexes. Phosphate and carbonate reduce the sensitivity of the method. (auth)
