Abstract
Increasing serial costs and decreasing budgets are wreaking havoc with serial collections throughout academia. Determining institutionally core journals is strategic to the effective allocation of monies for subscriptions. By using Dialog's online rank command in the Scisearch and Agricola databases, it was possible to determine those serials being used by the University of Florida's science and agriculture researchers. The Scisearch database provided a broad-based study, while the Agricola database provided a comparative study in a more specialized discipline that is an important component of the research effort at the University of Florida.
