Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore a new method for characterizing the subjective evaluation under different illuminance level by using electroencephalogram (EEG). The EEG signals and the subjective evaluation (i.e. visual comfort, spaciousness, brightness and visual appearance) from 16 subjects under 6 illuminance levels (75, 100, 200, 300, 500 and 850 lx) were collected. The results showed a significant correlation between subjective evaluation and illuminance. In addition, the logarithmic power of β band was significantly positively correlated with the illuminance ( p < 0.05), and the relationship between the comprehensive subjective satisfaction and the logarithmic power of β band was obtained. Based on this study, the method characterizing subjective evaluation based on the logarithmic power of β band was proposed. Therefore, this research provides a reference method for indoor light environment design based on the physical and mental health of residents.
