Abstract

The chemical speciation of trace metals in natural waters provides the key to an understanding of their biological availability and geochemical reactivity. Complexation by natural organic matter is a major feature of the speciation of certain trace metals and is widely studied by complexation capacity titrations. The theory of such titrations is well-documented (Shuman and Woodward 1973, 1977).
