Abstract

Application of the organic crystal 4-N,N-dimethylamino-4′-N′-methylstilbazolium 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfo-nate (DSTMS) for electro-optic time-domain measurements of terahertz wave radiation generated by two-color air discharge is experimentally approbated. Measurements were done with the use of techniques based on laser pulse energy changes in a DSTMS crystal. The results demonstrate that the measured signal has a bandwidth entirely covering the terahertz band (wider than 10 THz at a 0.1 amplitude level for 50 fs laser pulses) and significantly overcomes the value of the signal given by the standard detection technique with a GaP crystal.
