Abstract

This article categorizes the types of critical incidents that occur in schools, discusses the stress, anguish, and trauma such incidents evoke and how debriefings can helpfully respond to such affective reactions. The author describes debriefings and offers a case example. The paper concludes with a discussion of special issues to be considered when planning and conducting debriefings in school settings.
