Abstract

1. Treatment of patients with Itsenko-Cushing's disease using inhibitors of steroido-genesis in the adrenals without action on the hypothalamo-pituitary system does not ensure a remission of the disease, which may be due to activation of corticotropin secretion. 2. The joint use of cyproheptadine (peritol) and chloditan leads to a decrease in the basal levels of plasma corticotropin and cortisol, a decrease in the rate of secretion of cortisol, and a normalization of the daily excretion of total 17-HCS, which is manifested in a more prolonged and stable remission in most of the patients. 3. The simultaneous influence of drugs on the elevated secretion of corticotropin and glucocorticoids is a promising method of treatment of Itsenko-Cushing's disease.
