The use of CT Navigation in the removal of foreign bodies in the head and neck region

Abstract

Introduction: The incidence of foreign bodies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is relatively common. Foreign bodies are normally iatrogenic or traumatic in origin. Conventional imaging consists of plain films and CT imaging. The increasing sophistication of imaging techniques has allowed for more accurate localization of foreign bodies and their position relative to important anatomical structures in the head and neck region. In our unit at the Queen Victoria Hospital, we routinely use CT Navigation for removing foreign bodies and orbital reconstructions.
