Abstract

The technique of measuring the aerated and tapped bulk density of a powder has been refined to provide a sensitive guide to the processing characteristics of loosely compacted powders. A contour diagram of constant Hausner ratio on coordinates of particle size and relative humidity allows the prediction of critical process relative humidities and zones of relatively stable process operation. The same diagram also gives indications of the type and relative magnitude of the interparticulate forces causing cohesivity.
