Abstract

Close agreement was found between respective estimates of blood CO2 flux rate (193 and 199 gC/day) and labelling in plasma glucose (14.9 and 15.5%) when Na213CO3 and Na214CO3 were infused together into eight sheep for 17 h. From an infusion of Na213CO3 and [14C] glucose a model describing carbon flows through blood CO2 and plasma glucose was similar to that obtained from [14C] tracers infused on separate occasions. Key words: [14C] tracers, [13C] tracers, glucose flux, CO2 flux, sheep
