Abstract

Abstract Retrograde abdominal aortography was performed in 25 children and was found to be useful in helping to establish whether an abdominal mass was benign or malignant, as well as the presence and extent of metastases or direct invasion of adjacent structures. This technique was successful in establishing or substantiating the diagnosis in 20 patients. Aortograms were inconclusive in 5 patients who had tumor invasion of an adjacent organ or an avascular tumor. Hepatic metastases were established in 5 patients with neuroblastoma and in 2 with Wilms's tumor.
