Abstract

Amphotericin B, incorporated into Rogosa's SL medium or tomato juice agar special at a final concentration of 12.5 μg/ml of media, eliminated sporadic but troublesome yeast colonies that appeared on these selective media when used for isolating and enumerating lactobacilli in oral samples. At the indicated concentration, amphotericin B appeared to have no effect on colonial or cellular morphology, viable counts, or fermentation reactions in Lactobacillus casei, L. fermenti or L. acidophilus.
