Abstract
This paper describes recent experiments to ascertain the best approach to the use of absorbent materials for the removal of oil at sea. Properties of various absorbents, their laboratory characteristics and their effectiveness in sea trials and discussed, and practical suggestions made as to their appropriate use, including relevant spreading equipment.
