Abstract

The Iliac crest is often used as the donor site for tricortical bone graft. The resultant defect in the crest can be considerable and often cosmetically unacceptable. We describe a technique whereby the defect is filled with a sutured custom silicone block. Follow-up of 6 patients who underwent this procedure for revision of first metatarsophalangeal joint fusion, found no problems with the silicone block in any of the patients. This technique addresses iliac crest defects in a safe and cosmetically desirable way.
