Abstract

The agglomeration process covers the main trends of settlement changes. Agglomerations of the population concentrate the processes of mass production and nearly all the key elements of the innovation economy. This article presents a complex analysis of the current conditions of the development of cities and urban agglomerations in Russia and China within the areas potentially influenced by the New Silk Road. It analyzes the results of geographical field research (conducted in September 2015) of urban settlements and the formation of urban agglomerations in Russia and China. Finally, it compares Siberian and northern Chinese urban settlements and agglomerations in model territories against the background of general urban changes in both countries.
