The article aims to present the results of research conducted by Irkutsk School of Architecture on the urban planning of settlements on the shores of Lake Baikal in 2018-2020. The article describes the results of three scientific and practical conferences on urban planning on the shores of Lake Baikal held by Irkutsk National Research Technical University in 2018-2020. The analytical research method was used for an analysis of literature on urban planning, historical and modern master plans of Baikal settlements, results of scientific discussions held by the Department of Architectural Design (Irkutsk National Research Technical University) and interviews by leading theorists of Irkutsk School of Architecture. The method of overt observation was also used. It was concluded that the practice of modern urban planning on the shores of Lake Baikal does not meet modern environmental requirements and requirements to the involvement of local residents in the planning process. New target priorities have been set for future planning of Baikal settlements. The need for an interdisciplinary urban planning approach is emphasized. It is important to implement the best European and American urban planning experience. Results of the international landscape planning and land management programs implemented on the shores of Lake Baikal in the 1990s should be taken into account.
