Abstract

In November 1994, ABB delivered the first “Networker Express” electric multiple unit from their York (UK) works. The authors describe these units which represent the latest variant of the “Networker family” of electric and diesel multiple units, and incorporate a number of developments to meet the evolving needs of operators and vehicle lessors as the British Rail network is privatised. In particular they can be used on a wide variety of routes and services, hence the name “Universal Networker”.
