Abstract

The United States imports approximately 70% of its seafood. That number should increase as the East and West Coast fisheries have collapsed and the Gulf of Mexico fishery is still suffering from Hurricanes Rita, Wilma and Katrina. The Southeast Asian and South and Central American seafood industries should do well as population increases here in the US and seafood imports increase.
