Abstract

We print below two documents which, taken together, throw a bright light on United States policy toward Venezuela—and by implication toward the rest of Latin America as well. The first is a big front-page spread which appeared in the Denver Post of October 30, 1963. So far as we know, its accuracy has never been denied or challenged. The second is an account of an interview with a Venezuelan guerrilla leader which appeared in the Mexican weekly Siempre! on November 11, 1963. It explains why Washington is so concerned about the state of affairs in its most lucrative neo-colony. —The EditorsThis article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
