Abstract
In their development of the Perceived Characteristics of Innovating (PCI) scale, Moore and Benbasat (23) found that exploratory factor analysis could not differentiate two underlying constructs of the PCI: Relative Advantage and Compatibility. This study uses structural equation methodologies to examine the two constructs. The constructs were first analyzed for unidimensionality. Subsequent analysis suggested that the undimensional constructs were reliable and demonstrated convergent, concurrent, discriminant, and nomological validity. The results of this study provide support for Moore and Benbasat's (23) conceptualization of Relative Advantage and Compatibility as distinct, separate constructs underlying the PCI. In addition, conclusions are drawn concerning the difference between the adoption of an innovation and the acceptance of an innovation.
