MADDEN USN THE AUTHOR is Head of the Department of Marine Engineering at the United States Naval Academy. A 1933 graduate of the Academy, he completed a course in Naval Construction at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1938, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1947. He was commissioned in the Construction Corps in 1936 and became an Engineering Duty (ED) officer in 1940.
