Abstract

Summary The shell wall of Difflugia rubescens is shown to be composed of a single continuous layer in which extraneous particles are sometimes embedded. The nucleus has a single central nucleolus with lacunae and bands of microfilaments are found throughout the cytoplasmic body, especially associated with pseudopodia or epipods. The term ‘microfilament organising centre’ is used to describe the focal point of microfilament assembly.
